Giving Thanks

On this Thanksgiving weekend, in between the turkey dinners (thanks to my sister Jen and best friend Julie), there is so much to be thankful for. I hope you take a moment or two to really think about your thanksgiving list.

“Thank you” isn’t enough to express our extreme gratitude to the family of Addison’s donor. When faced with the unbearable grief of having to say good-bye to their baby, they made the difficult decision to give the gift of life to our daughter and several other babies. They are never far from our hearts.

Thank you to all the amazing staff at BC Children’s Hospital. There are so many who reached out to us above and beyond their calls of duty – nurses, doctors, techs, admin personnel, housekeeping, the list goes on and on. There’s the ER where Addison’s heart condition was first diagnosed, the PICU where she spent 3 weeks fighting for her life, and the Children’s Heart Unit. All of them helped save our little girl’s life. Then there are all the BCCH experts we see on a regular basis now who help keep Addison healthy – the Children’s Heart Centre for echos and ECGs, the Multi-Organ Transplant Clinic, Medical Day Unit. We feel so fortunate we live just 15-minutes drive time away from this wonderful place.

Thank you for family (and friends who are just like family). Without their unconditional love and support (and generous offers of food and babysitting), this journey would be so much more difficult. Addison’s grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins and many other great friends and family members have been at our side from day one, making the rough patches much easier.

Grandma McArthur came to visit this weekend

Thank you to our extended family at Global BC. Not only have we been buoyed by the support from all our colleagues at the station, we have also been touched by the response of the management team through Addison’s medical crisis and continuing to her ongoing care. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to work.

Thank you for every moment we get to spend with our beautiful baby girl Addison. We can’t imagine life without her. Who knew it was possible to love another person so much?

Love,

Elaine, Aaron and Addison
