If you didn’t know, you would think the families celebrating Christmas at Van Dusen Gardens this afternoon were just ordinary parents and children having a good time with Santa. In many ways, they were, but everyone there also has a story about little miracles and second chances.
Addison went to her first Children’s Organ Transplant Society Christmas party. I think she was the youngest transplant recipient there! We got to see a few of our transplant buddies again – Grace and Brynn. Grace had a kidney transplant last year with a kidney donated from her dad (read more about Grace HERE) and Brynn had a heart transplant when she was just a baby. Both girls are doing amazing and Brynn is celebrating a huge milestone this year…10 years post-transplant.
It was really inspiring and hopeful to see so many children running around, making crafts, playing with each other…you could not tell the transplant recipients from the siblings. Whenever we meet other families who have gone down the same path we are on now, we are heartened by their stories.
Addison was not as enthralled with the afternoon’s proceedings, particularly her second photo op with Santa. (The first session went a bit better.) There was a full-on cry-fest with the jolly old elf. I think that’s it for Santa for this year!
