Let’s get physical

Addison’s physiotherapy sessions are kicking in to high gear as the little princess shows more and more signs of getting ready to really bust a move. She has already perfected the art of sliding around backwards on the hardwood floors. Her tummy donuts are also looking pretty good, especially if there is something she really wants to grab with her little hands.

One of the benefits of having such a hefty medical file is the services of a physiotherapist. Even better – we get in-home visits! Last week, the physio and infant development consultant brought some stylish new shorts for Addison. They are called “hip helpers”. Picture a pair of stretchy baby bike shorts with the legs sewn together. At least they are a lovely bright red, a colour which looks great on Addison. Our little 10 month old was splaying her legs out in a frog position while on her tummy and though the physiotherapist says that does not affect future development, why not give her a bit of help? Hence the funky bike shorts.

The idea is to keep her knees closer together and get rid of the frog. Addison needs to get up on her hands and knees to get ready for crawling. The shorts also force her to sit in a position other than a wide V, which is very stable but not that great for convincing her to launch from sitting to crawling. It may take the diva some cajoling…she tends to be very opinionated about being made to do things she doesn’t want to do. But once she gets there (sometimes with a gentle push), she smiles like a champ who is quite proud of herself.

Love,

Elaine, Aaron and Addison
