A little detour on the way to the airport…

Addison May 2013 08 09-52-47

So in true Addison fashion, we couldn’t possibly do things the easy way. Last night, less than 20 hours from our departure to Hong Kong and Phuket, we were back in the ER of BC Children’s Hospital. Yes, I know…the Princess loves to keep things interesting! On Friday afternoon, she had a bit of a fever which went away Saturday morning. Then it came back Saturday afternoon along with slightly faster breathing. I would have been willing to take the ‘wait and see’ approach, except for that darn flight today. (Which as you will recall, is the rebooked flight from our cancelled October trip due to an unexpected three week stay at the hospital.) So we talked to our cardiologist and he told us to come on in, as we expected. It was a bad episode of deja vu, but this is our ‘new normal’ and we have learned to roll with life’s twists and turns, even if we don’t always want to.

Several episodes of Dora later, plus a chest x-ray, snot suction and a round of blood work, we took our tired little girl home with the green light to get on the airplane. The doctors are confident it’s just a run-of-the-mill viral infection that should clear up on its own in a few days. They ruled out rejection, always a good thing. So it was a late night of packing after the Princess crashed at around 11:30pm. She woke up fever-less and quite chipper, and after one last phone call from the cardiologist, we are getting ready to head to the airport. Narrowing down the animal selection for Hong Kong is proving to be quite challenging, but it’s a good kind of challenge.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommas out there! It is the most rewarding job ever but also the most difficult. I am always left with a new appreciation for our moms and our grandmas and great grandmas! Thank you for everything you have done for us and continue to do.

Love,

Elaine, Aaron and Addison
