When December 31 rolls around, it is a sure sign of how quickly time moves the older you get – or maybe time moves at warp speed with a toddler in tow. I have barely gotten used to the idea of 2013 and now 2014 is just hours away. We had a pretty fantastic year of adventures with the Princess. Most importantly, she has enjoyed good health with few medical interventions. For that, we are so thankful.
The most significant highlight of this year was our once-in-a-lifetime meeting with Felicia, our donor mom, and her family. On New Year’s Day, we will be sitting down to watch the Rose Bowl Parade hoping to catch a glimpse of Felicia in the crowd. She will be there because her daughter Audrey, Addison’s donor, will be honoured on the Donate Life “Light Up the World” float – 15 in the parade order. (Watch a story from Reno local news on the dedication ceremony HERE.) Reading through the stories of the 81 donors who are featured in the floragraphs is so moving. The youngest was less than a day old, the oldest was 71. Together, these beautiful souls saved the lives of hundreds, and in turn transformed the lives of thousands of the recipients’ family and friends.
Last year, we rang in 2013 in Australia. In the past 365 days, Addison has grown about six inches, she’s zooming around on her run bike, she’s very good at making up her own songs, and the biggest developmental change? She’s gone from a vocabulary of a few words to full-on conversation. There are so many gems that fall out of her mouth I started keeping track just this week. Here are my favourites:
Princess: “I love money!”
Dadda: “You have to work hard to make money.”
Princess: “But I don’t have a job!!”
Princess (as Momma is trying to get her to sit down and eat):
“I am going to the North Pole and then I’ll be right back.”
Princess: “When you say ‘blast off’, you blast off…and don’t forget the snacks.”
Snacks the Princess wants on her rocket ship: avocados, popcorn and Starbucks
Here’s to a new year of adventures with the Princess!!
Happy New Year everyone!
Elaine, Aaron and Addison
