It’s a long weekend! (aka a Monday of hospital appts) #lifeaftertransplant

The good news is Addison doesn’t have to undergo a biopsy this year for her annual appointments, which means we can avoid yet another date with the anesthesiologist. But the Princess won’t escape without any invasive procedures.

Today we are at BC Children’s Hospital for her annual kidney test – the GFR. The anti-rejection drugs are notoriously tough on kidneys so we are always monitoring their function. Addison’s bloodwork on kidney function has been pretty good over the past year so we are feeling pretty good about today’s test.

The GFR involves a series of blood draws so Addison had a line put in. Now that she is a little older, she is more aware of what’s coming up, she anticipates pain and has more anxiety. We have been talking about this over the past few weeks and calmed her down enough so she has been calling today a “long weekend” because she gets to skip preschool yeah! And there was no fear as we drove in this morning. I am proud to report she sailed through it with some deep breathing and coughing (according to Nat Geo that is supposed to distract your brain).

Also up on the schedule today…a chest X-ray. Plus the other usual hospital distractions. That usually involves a stop at the video screen featuring Miracle Stories. Addison really only likes looking at her own video LOL.

Then we are back on Wednesday for Transplant Clinic…which means an extra extra long weekend week, according to Princess logic!

Love,
Elaine, Aaron, Addison and Charlie

  1. She is such a little sweetheart. She is also so brave to be continually going through pokes and prods. Thinking of you Addison.
