We are now just three weeks away from the third annual Recycle Ride! And though we did pledge to be more organized after last year’s ride, a baby kind of throws a big giant wrench into any and all plans. Thankfully we have fantastic co-organizers who have really taken the bike by the handlebars and doubled us the whole way. (Ha, like my cycling pun?!) Sheena and Adam have pushed our little bike riding event to a whole new level with the addition of an event on Monday, August 15 everyone can participate in without breaking a sweat – a beer and burger pub night! It’s just $25 for a burger, fries and beer, plus an evening of fun. You can get more details and RSVP on our Eventbrite page.
If you can’t make it on August 15, you can still participate by buying raffle tickets. HERE is a list of all the great prizes up for grabs, with hopefully more to come. Tickets are just $2 each. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for raffle tickets.
And then of course there is the hallmark event…the crazy 120km long 3300m of climbing Recycle Ride Golden Sombrero (read about the origins to the Golden Sombrero HERE). This year’s ride is on Sunday, August 21 starting at 7am. It’s a little teeny bit less crazy than previous years, but still pretty much insanity. We don’t expect a large group of riders – not a surprise – though we are hoping for a great crowd at the finish line for a transplant community family picnic. This is a public event open to anyone in the transplant community – recipients, donors, donor families, supporters, medical staff, etc. It’s sponsored by the Transplant Research Foundation of BC, Transplant BC and the BC Division of the Canadian Transplant Association. Bring your own picnic and we’ll have some snacks and drinks to share!
Or we will happily take any and all donations!! You can DONATE HERE. All the money goes to supporting BC research to improve the lives of pediatric transplant patients. As we announced in our previous post, we have leveraged our first $25,000 into a $100,000 cross-Canada grant competition in cooperation with several other organizations. We want to keep doing this every year and we need your help to get there.
Hope to see you either at our pub night or at the ride (picnic)! Or even better come to both!!
